HealthChoice Evaluation
Final Report & Recommendations
January 15, 2002

In January 2001 the Department began the process of evaluating the HealthChoice program.  HealthChoice is in its fifth year of operation and the evaluation is an effort to assess whether the program has met its originally stated goals of:

1.   Build a patient-focused system with a medical home

2.   Build on strengths of the current system

3.   Provide comprehensive, prevention-oriented systems of care

4.   Achieve better value and predictability for state dollars

5.   Hold MCOs accountable for high quality care

The evaluation uses quantitative and qualitative data to assess the program’s progress in meeting its stated goals.  Over 70 meetings with HealthChoice stakeholders were held to gather input on HealthChoice.  These included meetings with consumers, providers, MCOs, advocates and other stakeholders.

The Department has completed the evaluation process.  The Department is pleased to release the final report.
